This research was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the Fishbowl Technique in improving the speaking skill of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Sigi. The research was motivated by the challenges faced by students in speaking activities, including lack of confidence, difficulty in expressing ideas verbally, and low participation in class discussions. These issues were identified during pre-observations at SMP Negeri 1 Sigi, leading the researcher to implement the Fishbowl Technique as a potential solution to these problems. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The research involved two groups: the experimental class (VIII A) and the control class (VIII B), each consisting of 29 students. The experimental class was taught using the Fishbowl Technique, while the control class was taught using the traditional discussion technique. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to assess the students’ speaking skills before and after the treatment. The results of the research revealed that the Fishbowl Technique significantly improved students' speaking skills. This was confirmed by the results of the paired sample t-test, where the t-count (28.847) was much higher than the t-table value (2.048) or (28.847 > 2.048) , with a significance the sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000 < 0.05. This led to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H₀) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ), indicating that the Fishbowl Technique was effective in enhancing students’ speaking skills. This means that the Fishbowl Technique effective towards students’ speaking skill of the eighth grade at SMP Negeri 1 Sigi.
